Bali – Villa Wastra Luxurious Sanctuary

If you are looking for a travel destination that will enliven your senses and regain your ‘taksu’ or spirit, head to Bali!

I recently had the amazing experience of doing travel photography work for two amazing destinations. First stop was a luxurious villa in the jungle of Payangan and it immediately captured my heart and began my love affair with Bali.

Villa Wastra has ‘taksu’ a balinese word that means soul or enlivened with spirit. The owners, Bob & Mariah, have created an architectural delight. Their vision created a beautiful property that is set up high on the edge of the jungle, which gives guests a sanctuary from the real world. The first word that struck me when arriving was ‘palace’ and the feeling of simple luxury is around every corner. All rooms are very large, have beautiful bedding, lush furnishings, and stunning views that look out towards nature. Attention to detail and anticipation of guests needs comes effortlessly to Mariah and Bob. Their staff are attentive and sweet – always ready to assist or prepare a delightful and fresh meal.

My husband and I are vegan and had some special dietary requests and Mariah was the ultimate in being a gracious host. All of our meals were made from fresh, local, and organic ingredients. We ‘oooed’ and ‘awwed’ at every meal and were constantly amazed at the fresh meals that were being introduced. If we could visit Bob and Mariah for dinner on a regular basis, we would (not just for their wonderful cooking, but for their lovely company too)! Bob has gardens on the property and he happily showed us all of the fresh veggies and coffee plants that he was growing. You can’t get any more local than that!!!

We happily woke up to views of perfection each day and starting our morning with yoga. If you want to relax – this is the place. Fresh breezes and the still beauty of the valley are all around you. Take advantage of complete immersion in serene Bali and go for a walk on the small path that leads you into the local village, over a swinging bridge, and beyond to a large Banyan Tree. If you want some adventure there is plenty of that available too! You can organize for day trips and visit the volcano or possibly do a bike riding tour through the rice paddies.

It is hard for me to express how special Villa Wastra is and I hope that it never changes! It is a place that holds a spirit and recharges you to your core in luxurious surroundings. The hosts are gracious, effortless, and genuine – truly remarkable people.

I hope you enjoy checking out a few of my shots from Bali (it was hard to narrow them down for this post!). To rejuvenate, refresh, and awaken your ‘taksu’ I highly recommend a trip to blissful Bali!
