Bali – Blissful walk through Ubud’s Rice Paddies & Sari Organik

A hidden oasis of green in Ubud is a 2 hour walk that leads you through some of the northern rice paddies. The path begins just north of the Ubud Palace and each step takes you further and further away from any noises of motorbikes and into the quiet and peaceful sounds of your footsteps on the path and wind blowing through the palm trees.

Even though rice paddies are part of the view in most of Bali, I urge any travelers to go on this walk to experience the serenity and quiet of the rice fields. Your entire vision will be of rice fields and vibrant colors of emerald green fusing into a turquoise sky. Within our first 5 minutes of the walk we are offered fresh coconuts (and already a bit hot and sweaty – coconut water sounds perfect!) As I nodded ‘yes!’ we are returned with a large smile and the Balinese man turned and shimmied up the coconut tree to cut down our fresh coconut. He invites us to walk in the paddies towards his modest home and hacks into the coconut and finishes with 2 straws to our delight. He kindly then offered for us to sit with him in the shade before heading back out to our walk.

Another 10 minutes through jaw dropping landscapes and winding trails brings us to Sari Organik. We almost stepped past this hidden gem and being the juice & organic foodies that we are couldn’t pass it up! Sari Organik is an oasis destination in the middle of the paddies that gives some shade from the sun, amazing views, and probably the best food we had in Ubud. I simply wanted one of everything on the menu – and it was hard to narrow down the amazing selection of organic vegetarian food. If you are looking to create your own salad – look no further; you can step into the adjacent garden and pick all of your own veggies that the chef will then whip up into an amazing dish. Aaah, life can’t get better than that! Local. Fresh. Organic. High Vibe & High Nutrient Dense foods to make your mouth water!

We picked a table that was right on the balcony to enjoy the vibrant views and sipped on yet another coconut water, ginger kombucha, and a green cleanser juice. Coconut salad and Potato Salad were on our list as they were light and refreshing for the rest of our walk. Recharge and unwind as you take bite by bite of nourishing and healing food. This was our little slice of serenity and I am so grateful for the owners of Sari Organik that created a place to simply be and fill the body and mind with health.

Not wanting to leave… we stepped backed into our rice field walk hydrated and ready for more adventure! For the next hour or so we meandered through rice field after rice field and watched in amazement the irrigation system set up for the paddies. The walk is absolutely one of the best I have ever had on my travels and gives you the chance to get to know the real Bali and see time stand still for an afternoon. Make sure to bring a hat and some sunscreen as it can get quite warm and is unprotected from the sun in large parts of the walk.

Love your writing! I also did myrsety school with Astrea in early 2010 and have been having a love affair with Bali ever since. My blog is about dreaming in Bali, dreaming about creating a meditation centre in Amed (on the East coast) where I love to swim and snorkel with the amazing fish and spend time with local people talking, singing, meditating ..ahhhh, Bali, what a magical, mysterious place! Thank you for you contribution!
